Sunday 21st March

Most of our science team arrived in Trinidad today, after a ten-hour flight from Gatwick. But the Autosub6000 engineers have been here for several days, assembling and testing the components of our favourite robot submarine, which has spent several weeks being shipped in freight containers from the UK.

Although the scientists arrived too late for dinner aboard the ship, the galley staff kindly laid on a welcome buffet - and then it was straight to their bunks for the new arrivals.
